Launched at the Centre’s opening, Dravya’s inaugural report, ‘Material-Intensive and Globally Entangled Nature of India’s Development Ambitions’, presents a framework for sustainable growth as India balances rapid economic development with environmental and social priorities.
Over the past three decades, India’s infrastructure, urbanisation, and ambitious growth and development agenda have dramatically increased its material footprint, introducing new structural risks. As import dependence and environmental pressures climb, managing demand for materials, metals, energy, and other resources is becoming increasingly critical.
The report calls on national actors to strengthen supply chains, promote circularity, and align innovation with climate goals to ensure that India’s ‘material moment’ delivers inclusion, resilience, and sustainable progress.
